Atmospheric water generators for the home

An atmospheric water generator pulls water out of the air the way an air conditioner drips. It cools air below its dew point, collects what condenses, and filters it into a tank.

How it makes water

  1. A fan draws outside air across a cold coil.
  2. Water vapor condenses on the coil and drips into a pan.
  3. The water is filtered and pumped to a storage tank.

Humidity and temperature set the output

Every output figure is rated at one condition. Ours is 86°F / 80% RH. Warm, humid air holds more water, so a unit makes more on a muggy summer night than on a dry winter day.

Ask any seller what condition their figure is rated at, then compare it with the air where you live.

Power and installation

  • The BlueSignal 5 and BlueSignal 21 plug into an existing 120 V outlet. No permit when the outlet already exists.
  • The BlueSignal 66 needs a dedicated 240 V circuit. A new circuit, hardwiring or a plumbing tie-in is licensed work by a licensed trade you hire.

Nameplate output is rated at 86°F / 80% RH. Drier or cooler air makes less; a quote estimates your address.

Checking the water it makes

The WQM-1 reads pH, TDS, turbidity and temperature every 60 seconds and shows them in BlueSignal Cloud. Drinking use depends on the treatment after the tank and on local rules. A licensed plumber and your local authority decide it.

Questions

How much water does an atmospheric water generator make?

It depends on the air. BlueSignal figures are nameplate output at 86°F / 80% RH; drier or cooler air makes less, and a quote estimates your address.

Does it need a plumber or an electrician?

Not for a plug-in unit on an existing outlet. A new circuit, hardwiring or a plumbing tie-in is licensed work.

Who makes BlueSignal generators?

BlueSignal XYZ, Inc. is their manufacturer of record. It imports them and sells them under its own name and rating label.

Can I drink the water?

Drinking use depends on the treatment after the tank and on local rules. A licensed plumber and your local authority decide it.
