Rainwater harvesting and water-wise landscapes for landscape businesses

Your customers already ask for gardens that hold up in a dry summer. A rain tank feeding drip and native planting is the job that answers it. BlueSignal trains you on the tank and the water, and you bring the trades the job needs.

What you already have

  • Design work, native and adapted plants, grading and hardscape.
  • Customers planning for drought, and some in places that pay rebates for rainwater and for turf replacement.
  • Relationships with an irrigator and a plumber for the licensed parts of a job.

Where BlueSignal fits

  • Rainwater harvesting: gutters, first flush, a tank, a pump and filters, sized from local rainfall with the free tank calculator and the Rain Planner, which also lists the local rebates.
  • Water-wise landscaping: the Rain Planner lists local rebates for rainwater and, where they exist, for replacing turf, so a proposal can show both.
  • Water quality monitoring: the BlueSignal WQM-1 reads pH, TDS, turbidity and temperature every minute and shows them in BlueSignal Cloud. It goes on wells, cisterns, pools, ponds and tanks.

Licenses for this work

  • Installing or servicing the irrigation that a tank feeds takes a TCEQ Landscape Irrigator license. If you do not hold one, a licensed irrigator does that part.
  • A tie-in to a building’s plumbing is work for a licensed plumber.
  • A rain barrel or a tank on a downspout that feeds a hose bib needs neither, but check what your city requires.

Questions

Do I need an irrigation license to install a rain tank?

Not for the tank, gutters and a hose connection. You do for any irrigation system it feeds: in Texas that is TCEQ Landscape Irrigator work.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing. The course, the listing and the proposal tool are free. You buy BlueSignal equipment at installer pricing when you sell a job.

Who does the homeowner contract with?

With you. You quote, sign and invoice the job under your own business and license. BlueSignal sells the equipment and runs the cloud the monitor reports to.

How long does the training take?

Eleven short videos, the written lessons, and one unit commissioned live for BlueSignal, on site or on a video call.
